Islam teaches us how to lead a righteous & pious life. Islam's code of modesty does not lie only in the way one dresses. It broadens it's meaning through behaviour, conduct & attire.
Muslims believe that their true purpose in life is to worship God according to His instructions and by the teachings of the final Prophet of Islam, Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessing be upon him). Islam encourages the awareness of our God through every aspect in our daily lives. Modest clothing is an integral part of worship to our God. We want to fully submit ourselves to our God.
We want to dress modestly, because our Lord has prescribed it, as we firmly believe 'Allah, our Lord knows best'.
In the Quran, God says, “And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms…” (24:31).
The key motivation is to please our God.
More than a dress code, Islam encompasses modest behaviors, manners and speech. The inner humility as exhibited through etiquettes and morals completes the significance of the physical veil. However, contrary to popular belief, these characteristics are not limited to women alone.
God also commands men to maintain their modesty in the Quran: “Tell believing men to lower their glances and guard their private parts: that is purer for them. God is well aware of everything they do” (24:30).
May Allah guide us to the right path.
